Horrify Accident - Montreal taxi hit-and-run

MONTREAL - Disturbing images are circulating on the Internet, showing a man apparently being run over by a taxi cab in Montreal.

A 23-year-old man was rushed to hospital pre-dawn Sunday with serious but non life-threatening injuries.A 47-year-old taxi driver and some of his clients were being investigated, police said, with the possibility of criminal charges being laid. The incident occurred in a lively downtown district, filled with night stops and restaurants.

Const. Yannick Ouimet said it appeared the taxi driver was having an argument with three clients when he told them to get out. Things quickly degenerated at that point, Ouimet said.

"People were actually kicking the vehicle, causing some (damage) on the vehicle."

Images circulating on the Internet showed a taxi nearly hitting one man and then, moments later, rolling over him. Ouimet said police are aware of several videos circulating online and he said they are being used in the investigation.

'American Idol': Elise Testone Eliminated After Queen Week

It's a testament to Elise's distinctive, bluesy tone that she managed to survive far longer in the competition than I expected she would (even though she deserved to make it the whole way). But like Phillip Phillips and Heejun Han, the "Idol" machine never seemed like a perfect fit for her graveled, soulful authenticity. She's not marketable enough to be an "Idol," but she's certainly talented enough to become a successful artist in her own right. I'll miss her unique take on songs, but this wasn't a game she could win. She was joined in the bottom three by Hollie Cavanagh (probably the next in line to be eliminated) and Skylar Laine. The Queen Extravaganza, a band formed by original members Roger Taylor and Brian May through an Internet competition, opened the show with a performance of the Queen classic, “Somebody to Love.”

The top six visited the TMZ offices in Los Angeles for a few lessons on how to deal with the intrusive media now that they’re celebrities.

Season 10′s Stefano Langone returned to sing his new single, “I’m on a Roll,” with help from Ben J from New Boyz. Fellow season 10 contestant Casey Abrams was also on hand to give the top six some advice going into the “Idol” tour this summer.

Katy Perry was lowered onto the stage to sing her latest hit, “Part of Me.” She was backed up by troupe of dancers all wearing camouflage to go with the war zone-like set.

American Idol 2012 Top 6: Jessica Sanchez ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

"American Idol" is all about finding a singer who can move contemporary music forward. Who could not be moved, then, by the decision to force the final six contestants to sing songs from Queen? Yes, the band hasn't been relevant for 20 years, but at least they play "We Will Rock You" at NFL games.

Sensitive viewers would have noticed that Ryan Seacrest's hair seemed to be describing a peculiar vertical. This was because he was still sick minutes before the show. Yes, it was so bad that Randy Jackson was brought in to offer an anodyne voice over introducing Queen - of whom surely at best five percent of the voters had ever heard.Judges: Overall the judges are liking it but they aren’t giving the highest praise, except for Randy, who sounds like the president of the Jessica Sanchez fan club. Steven thinks rock is not her forte, but Freddie Mercury would have liked it. Jennifer said it was great but it needed more of a rock edge.Randy thought it rocked and Jessica can sing anything, but she needs to channel some Tina Turner vibe.

Obama Celebrity Ad: American Crossroads 'Cool' Video Slams President Over Fame, Economy

The Karl Rove-linked, pro-GOP super PAC American Crossroads is out with a new ad attacking President Barack Obama as a "celebrity president."

The 45-second video, entitled "Cool," edits numerous clips together meant to paint Obama as a celebrity icon who is an ineffective leader. The spot highlights Obama's recent appearance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," his performance of Al Green's song "Let's Stay Together," and even the CNBC interview in which he swatted a fly.

"Four Years Ago," the ad proclaims, "America elected the BIGGEST CELEBRITY IN THE WORLD." After ironically labeling Obama as "ONE COOL PRESIDENT," the video slams Obama over jobless figures and student loan debt among college graduates. The spot concludes with a question: "AFTER 4 YEARS OF A CELEBRITY PRESIDENT IS YOUR LIFE ANY BETTER?"

The new video plays like a sequel to the 2008 John McCain ad that portrayed Obama, inter-spliced with images of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, as "the biggest celebrity in the world."

Coastal Carolina Batting Stance Guy

Cal Ripken Jr. is not just known for owning the Iron Man title and playing in most consecutive games ever. He was also well-known for having thousands of different batting stances. As much as Ripken tinkered and experimented to find the stance that worked for him at any given point in his career, he never came up with anything quite as unorthodox as the style of lefty Alex Buccilli of Coastal Carolina.
When the Chanticleers' outfielder steps up to the plate, he sticks his front foot far outside the box, keeps his back straight while holding the bat above his head (similar to Kevin Youkilis) and nearly bends backwards. As the pitcher sets up to throw, Buccilli brings his front foot closer in and lifts his body a little higher off the ground before taking his swing.Weird, right?Maybe it's not that bizarre when you consider all of the strange batting stances in the majors these days (Youkilis, Carl Crawford, Ichiro etc). Regardless, the routine seems to be working for Buccilli, who's batting .313 in 115 plate appearances so far this season.

William Levy Can't Keep His Hands Off Cheryl Burke On 'Dancing With The Stars

After earning the nickname "The Latino James Bond" last week, William Levy returned to "Dancing With the Stars" last night with more intrigue and sex appeal than ever before.

It was Motown Week last night, but that didn't stop the Cuban telenovela hunk and his partner Cheryl Burke from turning in their sexiest, raunchiest performance ever on "Dancing With the Stars".

Burke, who famously ripped Levy's shirt open during a steamy Salsa dance a few weeks ago, couldn't keep her hands off the Cuban actor on last night's show, caressing his face and pulling up his shirt to show off his 12-pack abs.

But, she wasn't the only one getting handsy.

William couldn't take his hands off his dance partner either--he spent most of the performance with his hands on her waist and thigh. The sexy couple ended their performance with William lying on top of Burke horizontally. Caliente!

"William. Absolute and utter filth -- and I loved every minute of it. I'm telling you, there are some ladies there in a frenzy," said judge Bruno Tonioli. "Please don't jump off the balcony. You two are wild for sex," he said. And judge Carrie Ann thanked William "on behalf of all of the women out there."

Obama 'Slow Jams The News' With Jimmy Fallon (VIDEO)

On Wednesday night, President Barack Obama did what no president has done before: He slow jammed the news with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots on "Late Night."

Stepping in for regular news jammer Brian Williams, Obama slow jammed one of his policy positions over the smooth vamping of house band The Roots.

"I'm President Barack Obama, and I, too, would like to Slow Jam the News," said Obama before taking his place on a stool and laying out his agenda.

"What we said is simple: Now is not the time to make school more expensive for our young people," Obama said to wild applause from the college crowd at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Fallon then stepped in to offer some slow jam support. "You should listen to the President," he crooned. "Or as I like to call him, the Preezy of the United Steezy." Watch as Obama tries to stifle his laughter in the background.

Jones vs. Evans at UFC 145 Full Fight

ATLANTA – After more than one year of nothing but chatter, the time for talk is over for Jon Jones and Rashad Evans.

The friends-turned-foes finally get the chance to let their actions speak for themselves, as they square off for the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title Saturday night at a sold-out Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA.But when Jones said last March that if UFC president Dana White demanded they meet, "then I guess that's what would have to happen,” Evans left Jackson’s team, Jones won the title and the feud was on.

Their match has been in the works ever since that night, but injuries to both kept delaying the inevitable. As their schedules got out of sync last year, Jones – now 24 years old and considered perhaps the greatest prospect in the sport’s history – beat former champs Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida. Meanwhile, Evans, the 32-year-old veteran, beat ex-champ Tito Ortiz and Phil Davis, the latter of which officially set up Saturday’s contest.Brimage was awarded scores of 30-27 and 29-28, while Blanco was given a 29-28 from the third judge. Following the bout, the two got into a gymnastics battle of sorts, each trying to one-up the other with backflips and cartwheels, drawing further boos from the fans in Atlanta.

“I was watching him for a long time and waiting for the right opportunities. It wasn't the same guy I thought I was going to fight. He was running from me a bit,” said Brimage.

“I was trying to pick my shots. I wanted to outdo the main event and even though it's not the fight I thought it would be, I'm happy.”

* Travis Browne (12-0-1) meets Chad Griggs (11-1) in a heavyweight bout.

* Matt Brown (15-11) takes on Stephen Thompson (6-0) in a welterweight contest.

* Montreal’s John Makdessi (9-1) squares off against Anthony Njokuani (15-6) in a lightweight match.

Djokovic cried after his grandfather's death

Hours before playing his third-round match against Alexander Dolgopolov at the Monte Carlo Open on Thursday, Novak Djokvic received the heartbreaking news that his beloved grandfather had passed away. The world's No. 1 player walked off the practice court in tears, covering his face with a towel. The emotional moment was broadcast by Canal+.

Given his emotion and the proximity of his match against Dolgopolov, tennis journalist Christopher Clarey wondered if Djokovic would even play. Longtime tennis correspondent for The Times, Neil Harman, felt that Djokovic's emotion would lift his performance.Neil Harman tweeted that Djokovic did not hold a press conference after the match.

Djokovic lived with his grandfather, Vladimir, in Belgrade when Serbia was bombed for 78 days and nights in 1999.

With the win, the Serbian star advances to the quarterfinals, where he will play the winner of Robin Haase and Thomaz Bellucci.

Teen girl Tashey D. Edwards arrested after brutal fight over twitter beef

This video is brutal, another senseless act of violence that could have been avoided, only IF people would think before they act. As a black female to watch other black females act this ignorance is disgusting. The girl and her crew acting like savage monsters, and then “we” blame everybody but ourselves, whatever goons participated in this kind of violence deserves the maximum punishment allowed. Tashay D. Edwards, a 19-year-old Ohio native (who was seeking internet fame at any expense, not only did she get the attention she was seeking, now she has a permanent record attached).

Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez's Lakers 'Kiss Cam' Liplock

They’ve never been shy about their displays of affection, and last night (April 17) Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were spotted locking lips once again.

The “Boyfriend” stud and his “Wizards of Waverly Place” babe attended the Los Angeles Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

And when it came time for the “Kiss Cam,” Justin boldly showed his love for Selena by planting a big smooch on her smacker for all to see.

However, not even Bieber and Gomez’s romantic vibe could save the Lakers from losing to San Antonio, 112-91.

2PAC Performs at Coachella as Hologram

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre brought Tupac Shakur back from the dead for a showstopping finale to the first Coachella weekend.

Shakur appeared as a hologram on the festival stage after a tribute performance of his hit California Love and the late star 'teamed up' with Snoop on Ain't Nothin' Like A Gangsta Party after an eerie solo rendition of Hail Mary from beyond the grave.

The ghostly apparition drew mixed reactions from those watching the set online, with one fan calling it "wrong on so many levels" and others stunned by the Tupac trick, tweeting, "WTF!"

But most rap fans were thrilled, including the stars in attendance. Katy Perry tweeted, "I think I might have cried when I saw Tupac," while her pal Rihanna boasted: "TupacBACK unbelievable IWASTHERE STORY4myGrandKidz (sic)."

Estelle added, "TupacBack Yeaaaahhhh omfg ... Real tears" and actress Teresa Palmer declared, "Coachella could not be cooler right now."The duo also performed Dre's first solo single, Deep Cover (187), Nuthin' But a G Thang and a brief cover of House of Pain's Jump Around.

The rap superstars closed their 60-minute set with their classic hit Still D.R.E. and it was clear the reclusive producer/hitmaker had really enjoyed what one Twitter fan called "Epichella." He left the thousands at the festival with the line, "Coachella, I wanna say thank you for all the love over the years."

Taking to Twitter after his performance, Wiz Khalifa told fans, "(expletive) 2pac Ahhhhhhh!!! I Performed Wit Dr Dre And Snoop Dogg!!! Awww (expletive) Im So Happy To Be Alive. The acts will repeat their performances and festival time slots at a second Coachella next weekend.

Blue Jays Fans Fight During Home Opener Against Red Sox (VIDEO)

Take me out to the ball game.. Take me out to the crowd.. So, I can fight it?
It didn't take long into the 2012 baseball season for a video of fan violence to surface. The clip above shows fans brawling in the stands during the tail end of Monday night's Blue Jays-Red Sox game in Toronto. According to the YouTube description accompanying the video, the fight broke out during the ninth inning in the 500 level of Rogers Centre. Perhaps some Blue Jays fans were upset after watching the Sox rally in the final inning? Boston scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead (which would end up being the final score).

The Dodgers increased stadium security for this year's opening day against the Pittsburgh Pirates, including undercover officers wearing Pirates jerseys in the stadium. There were also uniformed officers on horses and in squad cars patrolling the area. Sgt. Mitzi Fierro said undercover cops wearing rival teams' jerseys will be at every game.

In response to fan violence, the NFL made some changes to its preseason schedule, eliminating the annual Bay Area rivalry game between the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders. Last year's game was overshadowed by several ugly incidents which included a beating in a restroom, a massive fight in the stands and two fans shot in the parking lot of Candlestick Park afterward.

8,9 Earthquake in Sumatra Indonesia 11 April 2012 Tsunami alert in 29 countries

An 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia on Wednesday, sending residents around the region dashing out of their homes and offices in fear.

A tsunami watch was issued for the whole Indian Ocean.

The quake struck 308 miles (500 km) southwest of the city of Banda Aceh, on the northern tip of Indonesia’s Sumatra island, at a depth of 20.5 miles (33 km), the U.S. Geological survey said.

Indonesia’s disaster management agency said power was down in Aceh province and people were gathering on high ground as sirens warned of the danger.

“The electricity is down, there are traffic jams to access higher ground. Sirens and Koran recitals from mosques are everywhere,” said Sutopo, spokesman for the agency.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami watch was in effect for the entire Indian Ocean.

The quake was felt as far away as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and in southern India, residents said. Hundreds of office workers in the Indian city of Bangalore left their buildings, workers there said.

The quake was in roughly in the same area as a Dec. 26, 2004, quake of 9.1 magnitude, which sent huge tsunami waves crashing into Sumatra, where 170,000 people were killed, and across the Indian Ocean.

In all, the 2004 tsunami killed about 230,000 people in 13 Indian Ocean countries, including Thailand, Sri Lanka and India.

The 2004 quake was at a depth of 18 miles (30 km) along a fault line running under the Indian Ocean, off western Indonesia and up into the Bay of Bengal.

Wednesday’s quake was also felt in Sri Lanka, where office workers in the capital, Colombo, fled their offices, and the southern Thai holiday island of Phuket, both of which were hit hard by the 2004 tsunami.

Thai Meteorological Department deputy chief Somchai Baimoung said there was no tsunami warning yet in Thailand. Provincial officials along the Andaman Sea coast were preparing for evacuation if necessary.

In Bangladesh, where two tremors were felt, authorities also said there appeared to be no threat of a tsunami.

Blackburn 2-3 Liverpool: Carroll heads dramatic stoppage-time winner to earn victory for 10-man Reds

Blackburn Rovers were left to rue a missed Yakubu penalty in the first half as former Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll popped up with an injury time header to secure a vital 3-2 win against Liverpool.

Both sides are struggling to find form in the league at the minute and this game threw up numerous talking points with a converted and unconverted penalties from Yakubu, five goals and even a sending-off which has forced Dalglish’s keeper selection ahead of their FA Cup tie against Everton.

Taking the 2-1 lead into the break Dalglish would have prayed that the rest-bite and some words of wisdom would help his 10 men hold onto the lead, but he was naive in thinking such an erratic game was going to fade away.

Andy Carroll nearly made a blistering start to the second half after the first corner of the game was swung in to the back post. The former Newcastle United player lost Grant Hanley but he was unable to get everything behind his diving header, seeing the ball go wide of the goal.

Dalglish was left with his heart in his mouth as Yakubu charged down Jones’ clearance sending the ball into the air. As it fell the Substitute keeper was seen to hold the striker back causing the referee to award the second penalty of the game.

Everybody at Ewood Park was expecting to see the keeper taking an early bath but the ref only gave a yellow fortunately for Liverpool.

Although they got some luck with the decision they didn’t get it as Yakubu stepped up for his second attempt from the spot. With a carbon copy of the first attempt Jones went the wrong way seeing the ball hit the back of the net on his right ,to bring the scores level on the 61st minute.

Yakubu’s leveller seemed to galvanize the 10 man visitors but they failed to capitalise on their dominance rarely managing to overcome the capable back line to pose Robinson with a real challenge.

They inability to create clear-cut chances was nearly punished as N’Zonzi drilled a diagonal ball across the box to try and find the on-rushing Hoilett, but despite the players’ golden touch of late he could not manage to get a toe on the ball to turn it past Jones.

It seemed to rattle Dalglish’s men as a long ball onto the edge of their box was misjudged by Carroll. The ball cannoned off of the strikers head looping over the goalkeepers head, the Australian did well to track back and push the ball over the bar to spare his teammates blushes.

A long-ball into Agger was the catalyst for last minute drama at Ewood Park. At full stretch the Dane successfully helped the ball square into Carroll who easily lost his man to nod home past Robinson to secure maximum points.

Bubba Watson Wins Final Playoff Hole Of the 2012 76th Masters

American Bubba Watson parred the second sudden-death playoff hole to defeat South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen and capture the 76th Masters on Sunday for his first major golf championship.

The 33-year-old US left-hander became the eighth first-time major winner in a row and only the third southpaw to claim the green jacket symbolic of Masters supremacy after three-time winner Phil Mickelson and Canada's Mike Weir.

"I never got this far in my dreams, to talk," Watson said when asked to put his emotions into words. "It's a blessing for sure."

Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open champion, and big-hitting playing partner Watson battled down the final holes of the back nine at Augusta National, each finishing with a four-round total of 10-under par 278.

After both parred the first playoff hole, the par-4 18th, the tension-filled scene moved to the par-4 10th. You fire your tee shot far right into the pine needles and straw beneath a stand of trees. What? That doesn't sound right. But, thanks to an incredible hook shot -- and a wayward tee shot by opponent Louis Oosthuizen -- that's exactly what happened.

Standing amidst the gallery and the trees along while playing the 10th hole, Watson dreamed an executed an audacious shot to put him in fine position to putt for the victory.

Bubba Watson Wins Masters, Green Jacket After Playoff vs. Louis Oosthuizen

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The rarest shot in golf can happen any time Bubba Watson has a golf club in hands.

Watson was so deep in the woods late Sunday afternoon that he couldn't even see where he was going. With his golf ball nestled on a bed of pine needles, he hit a gap wedge that shot out toward the fairway and hooked some 40 yards and onto the elevated green.

Nothing less than the Masters was riding on the outcome. Nothing else would do except for a page right out of "Bubba golf."

And on a thrill-a-minute Sunday at Augusta National, where Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa made only the fourth double eagle in the 76-year history of this major, it made Watson a Masters champion.

"I've never had a dream go this far, so I can't really say it's a dream come true," Watson said. "I don't even know what happened on the back nine. ... Nervous on every shot, every putt. Went into a playoff. I got in these trees and hit a crazy shot that I saw in my head, and somehow I'm here talking to you with a green jacket on."

His amazing shot in the playoff settled 10 feet from the hole, setting up a simple par for the win.

Lost in all the commotion was Oosthuizen making what is commonly called the rarest shot in golf – an albatross – when his 4-iron from 253 yards on the par-5 second hole landed on the front of the green, took the slope and rolled some 90 feet into the cup for a 2.

This, from a guy who only two weeks ago won by five shots at Bay Hill, presumably signaling a return.

"It was an off week at the wrong time," Woods said.

He tied for 40th with U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, also favored to contend. McIlroy was one shot out of the lead after two rounds, then had a 77-76 weekend.

Woods and McIlroy were expected to be a big part of the show. This being Augusta, the show managed to go on. There simply is no greater theater in golf than the Masters, and it lasted all day.

An ace for Bo Van Pelt on the 16th – the second straight year he has made two eagles on the back nine – for a tournament-best 64. An ace for Adam Scott on the same hole, sending him to a 66.

The loudest cheer was for Oosthuizen's albatross.

Hanson was sizing up a difficult chip from right of the first green when Augusta erupted in cheers from down below. No one was sure what it meant until Hanson and Mickelson hit their tee shots on the par-5 second, glanced over at the white leaderboard behind the eighth green and saw that Oosthuizen had gone from 7 under to 10 under ahead of them.

Hanson made two quick bogeys and never caught back up. Mickelson's tournament might have ended on the fourth hole with one swing, one bad bounce off the bleachers, and two straight right-handed shots that led to triple bogey.

"Oh, no," Mickelson said as his tee shot struck the grandstand and caromed into the woods. He could have gone back to the tee and played his third shot. Instead, he tried to chop out of the trees from the right side and barely moved it a yard. He tried the same shot again and slapped it to a muddy patch of grass. From there he went into the bunker, and triple bogey was the best he could do.

Kuchar made a late run, but this back nine – plus two extra holes – ultimately belonged to Watson and Oosthuizen. And when it was over, austere Augusta National had a guy named "Bubba" in a green jacket.

Hello boys! One Direction's American dream continues as they join buxom Sofia Vergara on Saturday Night Live

They have already broken records in America after becoming the first UK group in history to have an album that debuts at number one in the billboard chart.

And One Direction are continuing to take the States by storm, and will be starring alongside Sofia Vergara on Saturday Night Live tomorrow.

Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson filmed a preview for the show alongside the Modern Family actress and one of SNL’s cast members, Kenan Thompson.

1D, who made chart history with the #1 debut of their first album, Up All Night, exuded plenty of energy in their two performances (unlike certain other recent emerging artists to enjoy the SNL spotlight. Looking at you, Lana Del Rey). All of that bodes well for their upcoming North American tour.

Their appearance alone clearly sent their fans into a frenzy (even if said fans’ parents were also famous. Country star Martina McBride, noting her teen-age daughter’s reaction, tweeted: “According to Emma The Beatles were just on Ed Sullivan for the 1st time. Oh wait. No. That was One Direction on SNL. :)”

And for all we know, that was before their second number.

Scottsdale CC baseball player receives cheap shot from Yavapai thug

A video has been posted to YouTube of a fight that occurred during a baseball game between Scottsdale Community College and Yavapai Community College. With the Fighting Artichokes of Scottsdale batting, the drama kicks off as a batter pushes a bunt up the first-base line. Although first base is not included in the camera's view, the players from both teams soon converge near that part of the diamond. Once the situation seems in hand, however, the Yavapai left fielder delivers what is being widely dubbed as the "worst cheap shot ever" in a baseball game

With everyone's attention focused on whatever happened near first base, the left fielder charges in unnoticed and clobbers a Scottsdale player from behind near second base. (The outfielder comes in the picture at the 18-second mark). Like everyone else, the player at second base was looking in the direction of first and had no idea someone was coming up behind him.Larry Brown Sports spoke to Yavapai College’s athletic director, Scott Farnsworth: “Yavapai college and our Athletic dept. support and encourage good sportsmanship and fair play, we do not condone the actions of our LF displayed in the video. Austin O’Such was immediately suspended and continues to be as we work through this most uncharacteristic incident.”

Virginia Beach Navy Jet Crash: Fighter Jet Hurtles Into Apartment Complex, Pilots Eject Before Impact

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A fighter jet that malfunctioned just after takeoff hurtled into a Virginia Beach apartment complex on Friday in a spectacular crash that sent flames and black smoke billowing from the rubble.

The two pilots managed to eject just before impact, suffering minor injuries along with five others on the ground. Several residents described hearing a loud explosion and looking out their windows to see the red and orange blaze. In the confusion that followed, two men helped one of the bloodied pilots from the two-seat F18 Hornet move to safety.

"Oh, my God, I heard three really loud explosions, then the black smoke went up high in the sky," said 71-year-old Felissa Ezell, who lives in a townhouse near the crash site.

By evening, emergency crews were searching through the charred remains of the complex, where some 40 apartment units were damaged or destroyed. No fatalities had been reported.

Seven people, including the pilots from nearby Naval Air Station Oceana, were taken to a hospital. All except one of the pilots were released by late afternoon.

Virginia Beach Fire Department Capt. Tim Riley said three residents remained unaccounted for late Friday.

"We don't know if we have working cell numbers, if they've traveled," Riley said. "We don't know if people are staying with other people."

He said crews had done an exhaustive search of about 95 percent of the apartment complex and would continue searching throughout the night.

Patrick Kavanaugh, who lives in the complex where the jet crashed, opened up his sliding glass door after hearing a loud explosion and saw one of the jet's pilots on the ground with blood on his face. Kavanaugh said the pilot, whom he described as a "young boy," was very upset and apologetic.

"The poor guy was in shock. I checked for broken bones and opened wounds," said Kavanaugh, who spent 23 years in the rescue squad and retired in 1996.

Despite having suffered several heart attacks and open-heart surgery, Kavanaugh said his old rescue skills kicked in as he dragged the pilot around the corner and away from the fire before several other explosions occurred.

As authorities closed roads in the neighborhood, traffic backed up on side streets and on nearby Interstate 264, with slow-moving columns of vehicles bringing drivers to a virtual standstill early Friday afternoon.

Charles Bisbee Jr., 70, said he wasn't sure what kind of damage his family will find when they are able to return home from the relief shelter at a school a few miles away. One of his sons, Charles III, is wheelchair bound and needs a place to rest, along with some medical supplies.

"We were going to give my son lunch, and just heard this crash, then another crash, then something exploded," Bisbee said. "We got outside, and the pilot was laying on the ground with his chute on."

He said some bystanders ran over and cut the parachute cords and tended to the pilot, "a young guy, and he was upset."

A fighter jet crashed in December 2008 while returning to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar after a training exercise in a San Diego neighborhood. That crash killed four members of one family and destroyed two homes.

The Marine Corps said the jet suffered a mechanical failure, but a series of bad decisions led the pilot – a student – to bypass a potentially safe landing at a coastal Navy base after his engine failed. The pilot ejected and told investigators he screamed in horror as he watched the jet plow into the neighborhood, incinerating two homes. A federal judge ordered the U.S. government to pay the family nearly $18 million in restitution.

Japanese Ghost Ship: Coast Guard Sinks Ryou-Un Maru In The Gulf Of Alaska (VIDEO)

OVER THE GULF OF ALASKA — A U.S. Coast Guard cutter poured cannon fire into a Japanese ghost ship that had been drifting since the last year's tsunami, sinking the vessel in the Gulf of Alaska and eliminating the hazard it posed to shipping and the coastline.

The cutter's guns tore holes in the 164-foot Ryou-Un Maru on Thursday, ending its long, lonely journey across the Pacific that began when the deadly tsunami set it floating more than a year ago.

The crew pummeled the ghost ship with high explosive ammunition, and the derelict Ryou-Un Maru soon burst into flames, and began taking on water, officials said.

A huge column of smoke could be seen over the gulf as a Coast Guard C-130 cargo plane, sent to observe the sinking, dropped a buoy to monitor for any possible pollution.

The Coast Guard warned mariners to stay away, and aviation authorities did the same for pilots.

In about four hours, the ship vanished into the water, said Chief Petty Officer Kip Wadlow in Juneau.

It sank into waters more than 6,000 feet deep, about 180 miles west of the southeast Alaska coast, the Coast Guard said.

Plans to sink it were halted so the Canadian crew could have a chance to take the stricken ship. A Canadian official with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that the Bernice C was unable to tow it.

That delay, in part, prompted the cargo plane to return to Kodiak, Alaska, before the ship sank because the plane burned up fuel while circling the area monitoring the situation.

The Canadian boat left, and once it was about 6 miles from the Japanese vessel, the Coast Guard began to fire, first with 25 mm shells, then a few hours later with ammunition twice that size.

In the year since the tsunami, the debris from Japan has washed up on shores across the Pacific.

In January, a half dozen large buoys suspected to be from Japanese oyster farms appeared at the top of Alaska's panhandle and may be among the first debris from the tsunami.

State health and environmental officials have said there's little need to be worried that debris landing on Alaska shores will be contaminated by radiation.

The earthquake triggered the world's worst nuclear crisis since the Chernobyl accident in 1986.

State officials have been working with federal counterparts to gauge the danger of debris including material affected by a damaged nuclear power plant, to see if Alaska residents, seafood or wild game could be affected.

Gregg Williams Audio: Ex-Saints Defensive Coach Instructed Players To Injure 49ers

Hours before members of the New Orleans Saints' coaching staff and front office were scheduled to have their appeals heard by the NFL regarding the team's bounty scandal, an incriminating audio recording surfaced of former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams seemingly exhorting his players to injure opponents during a fiery pre-game speech.

Yahoo's Michael Silver spoke with documentary filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, who recorded the speech at the team’s hotel the night before the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. In Pamphilon's recording, Williams can be heard instructing his players to injure several of the 49ers players, notably making explicit references to "taking out that outside ACL" of 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

Pamphilon informs Silver that Williams put a bounty on 49ers quarterback Alex Smith when he made the cash sign with his fingers and said, "We hit fuckin Smith right there, I got the first one. I got the first one. Go get it. Go lay that mother fucker out."There's a line in violent sports between controlled chaos and assault. On the field and from the stands, it's a line that gets blurred in every contest, and that's a part of the sport that everyone realizes, most accept and some revel in.

Keeping this line visible, however blurred, is why penalties are handed out and why fights are stopped. Ignoring the line or pretending it doesn't exist is why Williams, Payton, Loomis and the Saints are in the trouble they're in.

When the motive is clear and the motive is criminal, we cannot accept such a despicable and systematic erosion of the game as just part of the game.

When our culture accepts the worst possible iteration of the NFL as the paradigm of what the NFL should be, it's time to give up as both a sport and a culture. The game of football isn't what Williams preaches and what Saints fans want us to believe.

That game, the game Williams coaches, isn't fit for our Sunday viewing, and it isn't fit for our children to grow up emulating and playing. Williams' motives strip the game of its valor and make it something less-than-human.

The game of football can be better than this and has always been better than this, and if fans refuse to accept this lesser brand of football, the game will always be better than this.

Blake Griffin Dunk Of The Year On Pau Gasol 4/4/2012

The Lakers beat the Clippers 113-108 in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, but the Clippers won the highlight battle. Clippers forward Blake Griffin took his talents to the top of Pau Gasol’s head twice in the game. In the first quarter, Griffin climbed over the back of Pau Gasol for a fairly incredible putback dunk to earn the Clippers' first points of the game.

In the third quarter, it was more of the same from Griffin, who dunked on Gasol's head for the second time in the game:

Muhammad Ali Opens New Marlins Park, Twitter Reacts With Confusion, Sadness

The mystery of who would throw out the Miami Marlins' unannounced first pitch in their new Marlins Park was finally put to rest Wednesday night, but the talk is not dying down.

Owner Jeffrey Loria's surprise guest turned out to be the greatest himself, boxing legend Muhammad Ali. But a rousing cheer from the crowd quickly turned to a heavy hush at the sight of the obviously ailing 70-year-old, whose body is overwhelmed by the effects of Parkinson's Disease resulting from a lifetime of blows to the head.

It was hardly the inspirational scene in Atlanta in 1996, when a trembling but dignified and triumphant Ali touched the world by lighting the Olympic Torch, one of the Games' most meaningful moments. Ali, who no longer speaks in public, was wheeled onto the field in a cart moving at a very slow crawl, his arms shaking profusely while a smiling Loria clutched one hand and supported Ali with an arm around his shoulders.

The reaction from the sympathetic crowd wasn't what the Marlins apparently intended: the stadium's PA announcer, after what seemed like several minutes of near-silence, valiantly tried to start an "Ali! Ali!" chant over the loudspeaker. "It was uncomfortable," observed Fox Sports' senior baseball writer Ken Rosenthal. "And I think unnecessary."

(For those who remain confused over the choice of a Louisville boxer, Ali maintains strong ties to Miami from training at South Beach's famous 5th Street Gym to winning his first title fight over Sonny Liston in Miami in 1964.)

"The opening of Marlins Park started off with a parade of showgirls and Jose Feliciano singing the National Anthem," wrote Deadspin's Erik Malinowski. "It ended with the sad, shameless sight of Loria trotting out Ali's disease-ravaged body for a forced on-field ceremony. Happy Opening Day, everyone."

Baylor Defeats Notre Dame 2012 NCAA Tournament Champs

DENVER — Brittney Griner and Baylor left no doubt they're head and shoulders above any team in the country. In fact, they're perfect.

Griner had 26 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks to lead Baylor to a dominating 80-61 victory over Notre Dame in the NCAA women's basketball championship on Tuesday night, capping a 40-0 season for the Lady Bears.

"Looking back when we get older, I'm always going to remember this moment, always going to remember confetti falling and being here with my team," Griner said as she and her teammates hugged and celebrated.

They became the seventh women's team to run through a season unbeaten and the first in NCAA history to win 40 games. It was the second national championship for Baylor, which also won a title in 2005.

Baylor did it in a nearly wire-to-wire victory, finishing with a flourish in a season when anything less than bringing a title back to Waco would have been a huge disappointment.Mulkey has now won a title as a player (at Louisiana Tech), an Olympic gold medal (in 1984) and two titles as a coach. Only five women's coaches have more than one championship at the top level of NCAA competition.

Mulkey has downplayed the 40 wins, noting that her former coach and mentor at Louisiana Tech Leon Barmore won 40 games in 1980. That was before women's basketball was governed by the NCAA, which didn't begin keeping records until the 1982 season.

It was the second meeting between the teams this season. Baylor also won the first one, by 13 in Waco on Nov. 17. That win gave the Lady Bears the preseason WNIT title.

As usual, Griner put on a show in warmups, thrilling the crowd with a series of impressive dunks – including a one-handed throw down, a double-pump slam and another in which she hung on rim. She has already dunked twice in the tournament, matching Candace Parker for most dunks by a woman in NCAA tournament play and during a college career (seven).

Oikos University Shooting Oakland California (April 2, 2012)

OAKLAND, Calif. — A 43-year-old former student of a small Christian university in California opened fire at the school Monday, killing at least seven people and setting off an intense, chaotic manhunt that ended with his capture at a nearby shopping center, authorities said.

Police Chief Howard Jordan said One L. Goh surrendered about an hour after the shooting at Oikos University. Jordan initially reported that authorities recovered the weapon used during the rampage, but later clarified that police only recovered enough ballistics evidence to determine that a handgun was used in the rampage.

"It's going to take us a few days to put the pieces together," Jordan said. "We do not have a motive."

Police first received a 911 call at 10:33 a.m. reporting a woman on the ground bleeding. As more calls came in from the school, the first arriving officer found a victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, he said.

It was an "extremely chaotic scene," Jordan said.

More officers arrived and formed a perimeter around the school on the belief that the suspect was still inside, he said."He didn't look like he had a sign of relief on him. He didn't look like he had much of any emotion on his face," said Lisa Resler, who was buying fruit at Safeway with her 4-year-old daughter when she saw the man.

Goh also called his father soon after the shooting and told him what happened, the police chief said. The father also called authorities, Jordan said.

Police went to the Westlake Christian Terrace senior housing complex on Monday afternoon to speak with a relative of Goh, Nam Ko Young, who's believed to be the man's father, said Young's neighbor, Barbara Ferguson.

Ferguson said she's seen Goh and Young in the lobby and exchanged hellos in the past but that she doesn't know them well.

Jerry Sung, the university's accountant, said the school offers courses in both Korean and English to less than 100 students. He said the campus consisted of one building. Sung said many of its students went on to work in nursing and ministry.

Newcastle 2 Liverpool 0 Full Highlight 1/4/2012

Papiss Cisse scored twice to extend Newcastle's lead over Liverpool to 11 points as the visitors' poor run of form continued.

After the returning Andy Carroll was booked for diving in the opening minutes, Cisse headed home Hatem Ben Arfa's cross midway through the first half.

And the three points were secured when the Senegal international composed himself and slotted home his second on the hour mark.

Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina was sent off with eight minutes remaining for aiming a headbutt towards James Perch, who had tripped the Spaniard.

Having used all three substitutions, Kenny Dalglish was forced to play Jose Enrique between the posts for the remaining minutes.
