Shark Attacks New Zealand Man 'Adam Strange'

AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- A shark possibly 14 feet long killed a swimmer near a popular New Zealand beach on Wednesday, then disappeared after police attempting to save the man fired gunshots at the enormous predator. Muriwai Beach near Auckland was closed after the fatal attack, one of only about a dozen in New Zealand in the past 180 years."We saw him rolling around, there was blood everywhere on the water," Pio Mose, who was fishing nearby, told local broadcaster 3 News. Mose said he believed at least two other sharks had joined in the frenzy around the body after a few minutes. The shark that attacked the swimmer was a great white, according to Russell Clark, a paramedic from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service, which responded to the emergency at the beach. The head of the local volunteer lifeguard service was quoted as saying they had confirmed that "one or two" sharks were spotted, but none had been seen since the man's body was removed from the water. Shark attacks are rare in New Zealand, where water sports and beach holidays are a rite of summer. More than 60 shark species are known to swim in the country's waters.Police said in a statement that they shot at the shark before it disappeared. Shark attacks are rare in New Zealand, with only 11 fatal attacks since records began in 1847.

Erin Andrews Rejects Kiss from 50 Cent at Daytona 500

Erin Andrews put the brakes on 50 Cent at the Daytona 500. Andrews, on the scene working for FOX, was searching for Danica Patrick before the Daytona 500 got underway when she encountered 50 Cent. The rapper attempted to plant a kiss on Andrews, but she turned her head a few times to avoid it. 50 Cent wasn’t apologizing afterward. “Hey, I wanted to kiss her, so I did,” he tweeted. (WARNING: NSFW language visible in the screen cap). 50 Cent was at Daytona to watch driver Mark Martin, who’s a huge fan of hip-hop. The artist sat atop Martin's pit stall and watched the 54-year-old driver of the No. 55 car finish third. Not surprisingly, 50 Cent's failed attempt to kiss Andrews caught the attention of many watching the race coverage. For many, the moment evoked memories of Joe Namath's very public and very rejected bid to kiss Suzy Kolber of ESPN in 2003.

LOS ANGELES — Just as Oscar host Seth MacFarlane set his sights on a variety of targets with a mixture of hits and misses, the motion picture academy spread the gold around to a varied slate of films. "Argo" won best picture as expected, along with two other prizes. But "Life of Pi" won the most awards with four, including a surprise win for director Ang Lee. I want to thank our friends in Iran, who live under terrible circumstances," said Affleck, a co-producer of the film, speaking at top speed in the very last minutes of the live prime-time Oscar broadcast.
