Rafael dos Anjos def. Donald Cerrone TKO (kick and punches) – Round 1

ORLANDO, Fla. – Maybe now UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos will finally get the respect he’s long demanded. The unheralded Brazilian needed just 66 seconds to dispatch of fan-favorite Donald Cerrone in the fastest lightweight title defense in UFC history. The lightweight title fight headlined today’s UFC on FOX 17 event at Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. It aired on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Cerrone bounced light on his feet to open, looking to stay at range and unleash his vaunted kickboxing skills. But it was dos Anjos who struck first, scoring first with a knee to the body and then with a vicious left kick that forced Cerrone to cover up. Dos Anjos immediately followed with a crisp three-punch combination and then a flurry of nearly 30 blows that threatened to end the fight.Dos Anjos opened with a straight left. Cerrone followed up with a low leg kick. Dos Anjos got Cerrone pinned up against the fence and began to unload on him. Cerrone put his hands up over his face to protect himself and just weathered the storm as Dos Anjos unloaded. Cerrone seemed to be blocking the punches as Dos Anjos continued to throw them. Eventually, Cerrone escaped and got to the middle of the ring, but Cerrone was taken to the ground and turtled as Dos Anjos unloaded more punches to force the referee to stop the fight and allowing Dos Anjos to retain.
