Alistair Overeem def. Junior Dos Santos TKO (punches) – Round 2
ORLANDO, Fla. – Alistair Overeem’s left hand bloodied Junior dos Santos’ nose, then split open his eye, then put him on the floor.
That final blow proved to be the deciding one for Overeem (40-14 MMA, 5-3 UFC), who won a TKO victory over Dos Santos (17-4 MMA, 11-3 UFC) when referee Dan Miragliotta stepped in to halt the bout over Dos Santos’ objections at the 4:43 mark of Round 2.The two have a feeling out process early. Santos is pressing early and seeking a chance to strike. Overeem was very defensive and on his heels. Santos landed a knee to the body then a jab. Overeem landed a strike, and it busted the nose of Santos.Dos Santos kicks Overeem below the belt and Dan Miragliotta stops the fight. Dos Santos apologizes and the action continues. Overeem lands a solid leg kick. Dos Santos has yet to uncork his right hand, ala Wladimir Klitchsko vs. Tyson Fury. Dos Santos fires a jab-spinning back kick combination that does not connect. Dos Santos lands a solid knee to the had of Overeem. Overeem contines with the leg kick. Dos Santos connects on a right hand to the body. Overeem lands a left hook to the eye of Dos Santos which cuts the former champion. Dos Santos lands a combination against the fence and Overeem knocks Dos Santos out cold with a left hook and Dos Santos tries to get up, but Miragliotta calls the fight.
