Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson Def. Fabio Maldonado unanimous decision
Quinton Jackson’s UFC losing skid came to an end at UFC 186 when “Rampage” defeated Fabio Maldonado in the co-main event of tonight’s pay-per-view.Jackson’s (36-11 MMA, 8-5 UFC) hand was last raised inside the octagon in May 2011. It was a long and trying stretch to get back in the UFC win column, but he finally did it with a unanimous decision victory over a game Maldonado (22-8 MMA, 5-5 UFC).Maldonado, to his credit, adjusted in the 2nd round and tried wearing Rampage down with fighting against the cage and dirty boxing in the clinch. He spammed short left hooks but lacked the power to trouble Jackson. In an unexpected twist, Maldonado took Rampage down late in the round but ultimately it wouldn't factor in the judges' scorecards. Round 3 was a Rampage round as his own series of body shots appeared to wear Maldonado down, as the Brazilian's output decreased and Jackson's combinations were largely on point. Fabio spent plenty of time slapping his own head or no-selling strikes Rampage landed, which surprisingly isn't effective offense.Jackson misses a hook. Maldonado checks a leg kick. Maldonado lands a right hand to the head. Jackson ducks a hook. Nice right hook to the body for "Rampage." Jackson slips a number of punches from Maldonado. Leg kick for Jackson. Maldonado's mouthpiece is out and time is briefly called. They exchange jabs. Jackson lands an uppercut. Overhand right from "Rampage" misses. Jackson knocks Maldonado's mouthpiece out and Maldonado receives a warning from referee Marc Goddard. Nice body punches from Jackson. Maldonado puts Jackson against the fence, yet again. Jackson lands an elbow. Jackson lands a right hand on the break. Maldonado briefly catches a leg. Jackson lands a left hand. Jackson connects with a knee to the body. Maldonado is ineffective in round three.
