Brewers pitcher Jimmy Nelson struck on head by line drive (video)


Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson was hit on the back of the head by a line drive off the bat of Tommy Pham in the third inning of Milwaukee's game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night. The team said a CT scan revealed on a contusion for Nelson and that he will remain hospitalized overnight for observation. Pham hit an 89 mph slider that ricocheted off Nelson and down the left-field line. The Brewers announced Nelson was lucid in the locker room, but he was taken to the hospital for a CAT scan. In his first full season in the Brewers' rotation, Nelson had an 11-12 record and a 3.95 earned-run average in 29 starts heading into Thursday night's game. In 175.1 innings, he'd given up 158 hits and 65 walks with 147 strikeouts. He leads the National League with 13 hit batters.
