John Scott wins All-Star Game MVP 2016

No matter what happens throughout the rest of his career, John Scott will forever be known as an NHL All-Star Game MVP. With his two goals during the league's first ever 3-on-3 tournament on Sunday and all-around great performance throughout the All-Star weekend, Scott was voted by fans as the MVP of the game after his Pacific Division picked up a 1-0 win in the tournament's championship game over the Atlantic Division. There has been much banter as to whether Scott should have played in the game, and whether it was a disrespect to players who are more deserving. The NHL has been accused of trying to keep Scott out be allegedly forcing a trade of his from the Arizona Coyotes to the Montreal Canadiens, who promptly sent him down to the American Hockey League. The players made the biggest statement of all afterwards, carrying Scott of the ice on their shoulders. The NHL All-Star Game is usually a waste of time like most exhibitions in professional sports, but this gave us a moment that we will all remember forever.

Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson beat Ryan Bader via knockout at UFC on Fox 18 in just 86 seconds. 'Darth' Bader's sloppy takedown attempt in the opening seconds landed him in immediate trouble. Rumble sprawled away with precision before moving into a dominant position. Johnson quickly found himself in side control before moving to half guard and eventually full mount.Bader immediately shot for the takedown against Johnson. Johnson stuffed the takedown and attempted to take the back of Bader. Bader grabbed a hold of Johnson's arm, attempting a kimura. Johnson passed from side control to mount while Bader held onto the kimura. Bader eventually let go and gave up his back. Johnson then pounded Bader with huge punches until Bader went unconscious.

Panthers fan falls out of stands celebrating touchdown NFC Championship

A fan fell from the stands during the Carolina Panthers’ NFC Championship game Sunday night in Charlotte. Not much seems to be known about the fan, but the fan can clearly be seen falling near Luke Kuechly who was giving high fives to fans. Kuechly then helped the fan up. There is no word on any possible injuries.But instead of letting security take care of the fan, Kuechly stopped and checked on him.

The Clippers continue to be the masters of aggravation. Plenty of players and teams hate the Clippers, and now you can add Knicks center Robin Lopez to the ever-growing list. Lopez got tangled up with Chris Paul on Friday night after both players fought for a rebound along the baseline.After reviewing the play, officials gave Lopez two technical fouls and ejected him from the game. DeAndre Jordan and Paul Pierce each received one technical and Paul didn't have any technicals called on him. Since Lopez actually struck Paul in the face, the NBA could possibly fine or even suspend the Knicks big man. The NBA often takes incidents involving a physical altercation, even a light one like Lopez's, very seriously.

Dominick Cruz Beats TJ Dillashaw Win Bantamweight Title

This is the UFC Fight Night 81 live blog for T.J. Dillashaw vs. Dominick Cruz, a bantamweight bout at Sunday night's UFC event at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass. Dillashaw tried to land a huge kick, but it did minimal damage and his momentum made him land on the mat. Cruz scored the first big punch with around two minutes remaining. Cruz tried to take down Dillashaw, but he quickly got out of it and landed some forceful strikes in the final minute. Both men opened throwing high kicks that didn’t land. Dillashaw aggressively pushed his way in, avoiding punches from Cruz who was throwing as he retreated. Cruz landed a big right hand. Dillashaw kept swining but Cruz kept avoiding. Dillashaw went for a head kick that missed and fell but was allowed to get up because Cruz was back-pedaling. Dillashaw walked backwards inviting Cruz in. Dillashaw landed an inside leg kick. Cruz landed a big left hand as he pushed forward. On a second attack he caught a right hand from Dillashaw who kept coming and landed a right head kick. Dillashaw followed with a right hand. Dillashaw went for the right hand but Cruz ducked and got the take down. Dillashaw landed a brutal kick to Cruz, who started bleeding from the mouth soon after. Cruz however scored another takedown, although Dillashaw got out of it once again without too much damage done. Dillashaw connected on another kick to the face with under a minute left, but Cruz came back fast with some big punches of his own. Dillashaw opened with a kick that missed again. Dillashaw continued to target Cruz’s left leg with low kicks, targetting the thigh. Dillashaw landed a kick to the left side of Cruz’s body. Dillashaw landed a big right hand. Dillashaw landed a big left leg kick. Dillashaw landed another kick to Cruz’s left side of his body. Dillashaw went for a kick and Cruz grabbed his leg and followed with some combinations that Dillashaw did well to defend as he escaped the threat. Dillashaw landed a hard kick to the leg and it looked like Cruz was switching stances to protect that leg. Dillashaw landed another leg kick as Cruz came in for a combination. Cruz came in swigning wildly and it was Dillashaw avoiding and making Cruz look like he was throwing recklessly. Cruz came in with a huge combination to push Dillashaw back. Dillashaw went with another low leg kick to Cruz’s left leg. Cruz went for a takedown but Dillashaw stuffed it.

Eddie Alvarez def. Anthony Pettis UFC Fight Night 81

Former UFC and WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis returned to action to meet former Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez in the co-feature bout of UFC Fight Night 81 Sunday in Boston. Pettis took the center of hte cage early, but it was Alvarez who landed first with a leg kick. 30 seconds in, Alvarez shot in for a takedown and pulled Petis down to the mat and against the cage. Pettis was up quickly, but couldn’t escape the clinch. Alvarez seemed intent on staying as close as possible to Pettis and keeping it on the ground. He was constantly looking to droop his hips and get another takedown. Pettis was able to land some knees, but had no luck shaking Alvarez off before briefly going back to the canvas. Finally, Pettis circled away from the cage and started throwing kicks. He tried a spinning heel kick, but found himself taken down once again. Alvarez opened with a good body kick to Pettis and he was dictating the pace. Alvarez followed with a short right hook. Alvarez went for the takedown and just pinned Pettis against the cage as he tried to get his legs out from under him. Alvarez held underhooks and tried to control but Pettis was able to get out with his knees. Alvarez continued to control the middle and had Pettis circling on the outside, making him cautious of the potential takedown. Pettis went for a hard leg kick and Alvarez engaged in the clinch pinning Pettis against the cage. Pettis quickly went for and released a guillotine choke on Alvarez. Pettis switched to the orthodox stance at the urging of his corner. He was able to hold off a takedown and stay off the cage. He landed a left that seemed to put back Alvarez a bit. Pettis began to take the control with punches and leg kicks. Alvarez came out with more urgency, but went right back to the takedown attempt. he failed again and ate several strikes. He was throwing back, but Pettis’s strikes had a lot more steam behind them. Eddie was bleeding from his nose now, but he finally scored with a double leg against the fence. Pettis, however, went for a heelhook. Alvarez defended and ended up in half-guard. Alvarez threw some hammer fists to counter and get into Pettis’ half-gaurd. Pettis got to his feet but couldn’t get free from Alvarez, who responded by slamming Pettis back to the ground. Pettis went for full guard, then escaped to his feet but Alvarez continued to pin him against the cage leaving Pettis to fight for his freedom. Alvarez tried to use his right leg to take out Pettis’ legs and get the takedown. With about 30 seconds left, Pettis got free and needed to go for a finish but looked gassed and lacking urgency.

Russell Westbrook Fight with J.J. Barea and Charlie Villanueva Ejected

Anytime two playoff teams like the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder get on the court together, there is going to be some competitive basketball and some chippy behavior on the court. The two teams don’t like each other and have had several epic battles over the years. Russell Westbrook and J.J. Barea are two players that have faced off against each other on many occasions. The two also got tangled on the court and got into it against each other on Wednesday night. Westbrook squared up and chest-bumped Barea and seemed ready and willing to pull Barea’s card. Referees and teammates jumped in to save things from going completely south, but not before Charlie Villaneuva got a hand to Westbrook’s throat. After seven minutes of reviewing the video evidence, Villaneuva was ejected, while Barea, Westbrook, and Serge Ibaka were each handed a technical. Just minutes later, Barea locked Westbrook up a second time, and Westbrook once again swung his arm in frustration. Westbrook was ejected and hit the locker room early with seven rebounds and eight assists.

Ricky Gervais opened the 2016 Golden Globe Awards with his usual mix of crass jokes at the opening monologue. Gervais then started poking fun about the nominees and also talked about film companies actually paying for their Golden Globe Awards for their actors. Ouch. He made fun of women’s equality when it comes to Hollywood paychecks. Gervais also talked about all the female remakes of films like Ghostbusters and said that they are sure box office hits that are great for the studios because they don’t have to pay the cast as much money.

Ryan Shazier Knocks Out Giovani Bernard

Tonight’s already tense Steelers-Bengals Wild Card game turned very ugly after Ryan Shazier knocked out Giovani Bernard and forced a fumble with a devastating hit delivered to Bernard’s skull. Brain damage apologists at CBS defended the play as legal and simply called the play “unfortunate,” because Bernard’s status in the play declared him “not defenseless.” Shazier was all over the field and led the team in tackles (13), two of which went for a loss. Furthermore, he stripped Jeremy Hill of the football in what was a turning point late in the game. He also put a big hit on Bengals running back Giovani Bernard during the third quarter of the game.

Ben Roethlisberger was driven into the turf and now has a shoulder injury. He may not return for this game, and could be out longer if the Steelers survive. He had to leave the field on a cart, and what appears to be a beer can was thrown that hit off the cart near his foot.

Dominique Reed carted off field after brutal helmet-to-helmet collision

Dominique Reed suffered a severe injury in the second quarter today in Memphis as the Arkansas wide receiver took a blow to the head and remained motionless on the Liberty Bowl turf. After catching a pass from quarterback Brandon Allen, Reed was being tackled by two Kansas State defenders before Wildcats’ defensive back Sean Newlan hit Reed with his helmet. The hit seemingly knocked Reed unconscious immediately as he laid motionless on the turf for a few minutes following the play. he ESPN broadcast reported that Reed regained consciousness in the ambulance, was able to move his fingers, and is suffering from a “neck injury.”
