Surveillance video released in Waco biker shootout
Waco, Texas (CNN)After the guns fell silent on May 17 -- one of the bloodiest afternoons in the history of American motorcycle clubs -- nine bikers lay dead in a strip mall parking lot littered with weapons.
Many more were injured, bleeding from gunshots and knife wounds. A police officer asked what every other cop there must have wondered at that moment: How many of you are armed?
"I asked anybody who had a gun to raise their hand," Waco Officer Ryan Holt wrote in a police report obtained by CNN.
Two biker gangs were identified as the chief participants in the Twin Peaks gun fight, the Bandidos and the Cossacks. Both blame each other for the events that took place.
Earlier this week the Texas attorney general's office said Waco prosecutors violated open records laws by not releasing text messages related to a deadly May shootout involving bikers and police.
Police say the shootout was between the Bandidos and Cossacks, with witnesses saying it started after a Bandido hit a prospective member of the Cossacks with his bike, NBC News reports. Investigators found 430 weapons at the scene, including 151 firearms.
It's unclear who released the 1 minute and 46 second video, with the Waco Police Department and McLennan County district attorney's office both saying they had nothing to do with it. The Associated Press said it received the video along with other pieces of evidence last month, but did not publish it.
